Florence is one of the most beautiful places in Italy for a pre-wedding photoshoot, combining Renaissance architecture, romantic streets and panoramic views over the city.

For this Florence pre-wedding session, we started at Piazzale Michelangelo in the soft early morning light, with the Duomo and Florence skyline in the background. From there, we continued into the historic centre for photographs around Santa Maria del Fiore, Ponte Vecchio and the surrounding streets.

Starting at sunrise makes it possible to combine some of Florence’s most iconic locations in one photoshoot, while enjoying softer light and a much quieter city.

My approach to pre-wedding photography is romantic, elegant, light and airy, with soft natural light, timeless colours and a balance between beautifully composed portraits and spontaneous moments together. I also help with planning the route, timing and locations, particularly for couples travelling to Florence from abroad.

 

Planning a Pre-Wedding Photoshoot in Florence

 

A pre-wedding photoshoot usually gives us more freedom to plan the experience around the locations, light and different looks you would like to include.

For couples who want both the panoramic view over Florence and its historic centre, I recommend starting at sunrise at Piazzale Michelangelo. We can photograph the city skyline with the Duomo and Florentine rooftops in the background, then take a short taxi ride into the centre for Piazza del Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria, the Uffizi area and the old streets of Florence. Florence in the early morning is perfect for the light and airy photography style I love. Soft light, pale stone, quiet streets and the warm colours of the city create photographs that feel romantic and elegant while still natural and full of life.

For a longer pre-wedding photoshoot, we can also plan an outfit change or add quieter locations along the route. If you are wearing a wedding dress and heels, I recommend bringing comfortable shoes for moving between locations, especially on Florence’s historic stone streets.

The route does not need to be fixed in the same way for every couple. I plan it around the locations you love, your outfits, the season and the best light, so that the photographs feel connected rather than like a checklist of Florence landmarks.
